Nordrøst is a speech school which strengthens dialogue, citizenship and courage among young people in Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark. The project is a collaboration between Den Rejsende Forfatterskole and Røst, who are experts in rhetoric. The goal is to give young people a voice and a desire to take responsibility for their own and others’ well-being.

The young people in North Atlantic societies are among the most informed and educated in the world. At the same time, unfortunately, there is growing dissatisfaction among them. This is expressed in increased stress, dropping out of education and psychological diagnoses. Nordrøst aims to give the young people a podium where they can discuss questions they find important, and through workshops they are given rhetorical and practical tools that will strengthen them in giving speeches to an audience. The initiator and project manager Anette Molbech regarding Nordrøst:

“Nordrøst have given voice to a number of future advocates for youth in the North Atlantic region. Not only do they now have tools to speak up – they have also had the opportunity to do that to a huge crowd of young people as well as influential decision makers such as ambassadors, politicians, businesses, NGO’s and many more n the Arctic/North Atlantic.”

“They took my voice when I was 10. Now I have gotten it back. And I will not be silent!”, said Inga, a previous participant of Nordrøst from Kambsdalur, FO.

The project has been granted funding from the Volt programme in 2022.
