Funding programmes, library and events
Nordic Culture Point administers several of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ funding programmes for culture and society, runs a Nordic library, and organises cultural events in Helsinki and around Finland.
We are an institution under the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Ministers for Nordic Co-operation have given us the job of helping the Nordic Region become the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030.
History
Helsinki has been home to Nordic cultural co-operation since the 1970s, with Nordic Culture Point pursuing activities in their current form since 2012.
1978 to 1996
Nordiskt konstcentrum is run from Suomenlinna.
1997 to 2006
The Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art (NIFCA) takes over the activities at Suomenlinna.
1997
The Nordic Institute in Finland (NIFIN) is established on Kajsaniemigatan in Helsinki.
2007
Nordic Culture Point takes over the administration of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ funding programmes for culture in Suomenlinna.
2012
Nordic Culture Point and the Nordic Institute in Finland are merged and adopt the name “Nordic Culture Point”.
2017
The organisation changes its Swedish name from Kulturkontakt Nord to Nordisk kulturkontakt, although the English name remains unchanged.
