Sustainability

Economic, social, and ecological sustainability are all top priorities in Nordic co-operation.

Nordic Culture Point is helping to deliver the Nordic Council of Ministers’ vision for the Nordic Region to be the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030. This means that we strive to ensure all our activities are socially, ecologically, and economically sustainable.

Our ambition is to create the best possible conditions for sustainable cultural production and development, both through the funding programmes we administer and in our own public activities.

Social sustainability

Nordic Culture Point works to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and an accessible cultural scene.

  • We include, encourage, and highlight the wide range of cultural expressions in the Nordic Region.
  • We strive for a safer, more accessible, and inclusive environment both physically and digitally.
  • We encourage co-creation.
  • We enable creativity and stimulate critical and constructive thinking at all ages.
  • We strive for gender equality and well-being among our staff.

Ecological sustainability

Nordic Culture Point’s environmental work is monitored with the help of the Ekokompassen environmental system. We’re also working towards satisfying the Nordic Council of Ministers’ green roadmap for cultural institutions. As of 2025, our environmental promise is to:

  • develop processes to ensure sustainable purchases of services and goods
  • communicate environmental values in our own activities, to our clients and visitors, and in the projects we fund
  • pursue sustainable travel
  • review our digital footprint

Our environmental promise is monitored internally by way of time-limited targets and updated with new targets once the previous targets are met.

Economic sustainability

We help to make the Nordic Region visible, competitive, and creative. As a non-profit institution, we’re committed to creating added value through the tax funds that finance us.

  • The Nordic and Nordic-Baltic funding programmes facilitate skills development, which strengthens the long-term economic development of the arts and culture sector.
  • The funding programmes’ funds are allocated by independent expert groups according to the arm’s-length principle.
  • Participation in our events is always free of charge.
  • We strive to provide fair remuneration and equal financial opportunities for participation in our own residency programme.
  • Students are offered the opportunity for paid internships with us.
