Translation in Focus – Award Ceremony, Talks, and Discussions with Janina Orlov, Julia Tidigs, Sofi Oksanen, and Rosa Liksom

""

Welcome to join us on 3rd December for a tribute to the art of translation at Nordic Culture Point, where the Letterstedtska Föreningen (Association) will award their Nordic Translation Prize to the acclaimed translator Janina Orlov. The programme will also feature authors Sofi Oksanen and Rosa Liksom, as well as researcher Julia Tidigs. The event will be held mainly in Swedish, except for the conversation between Orlov and Oksanen, which will be in English.

The Translation Prize is one of the largest awards for translation in the Nordic region and is presented by Björn von Sydow, former Minister of Defence and Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, and Chair of the Letterstedtska Föreningen.

Before the award ceremony, researcher Julia Tidigs from the University of Helsinki will give a lecture titled Nordic Literature Between Languages – On Multilingualism and Translation.

Janina Orlov’s translations of works by Rosa Liksom and Sofi Oksanen into Swedish have been instrumental in her selection as the recipient of the Letterstedtska Föreningen’s Translation Prize. The celebrated authors join Janina Orlov in conversation about the role of translation and the dynamics of their collaboration. The discussions will be moderated by culture journalist Marit Lindqvist.

The Letterstedtska Föreningen’s Nordic Translation Prize, funded by the Nyhlén Foundation, recognises translations between the Nordic languages. The prize amount is 100,000 Swedish kronor, and it is being awarded for the 13th time. The Letterstedtska Föreningen promotes Nordic cooperation by funding projects and publishing Nordisk Tidskrift, one of the Nordic region’s oldest cultural journals.
