Film Night: Charter (SE, 2020)

The film “Charter” (2020) has been nominated for the Nordic Council Film Prize and was Sweden’s Oscar nominee for 2020. The film is a pan-Nordic project with Norwegian and Icelandic lead roles.

Alice is mum to two children who she hasn’t seen for several months. After a difficult divorce, her ex-husband prevents her from seeing the children pending a final custody hearing in northern Sweden. As a last resort, and to win her children back, she decides to pick them up from their father and take them on a charter flight to the Canary Islands. The film is directed by South Sami director Amanda Kernell, who was also behind the widely acclaimed film “Sameblod” from 2016.
