CANCELLED BECAUSE OF CORONA RESTRICTIONS
We’re showing the Icelandic nominee for the 2020 Nordic Council Film Prize. Echo, directed by Rúnar Rúnarsson, is based in Iceland at Christmas time.
While everyone’s busy preparing for Christmas, a feeling of excitement but also anxiousness descends across the country.
Way out in the countryside, an abandoned farm has gone up in flames. At a school, a children’s choir is singing Christmas carols. At a slaughterhouse, chickens are being transported along a rail. In a museum, a woman is arguing with her ex-husband. In a cottage, a young girl is trying to get her grandmother to try on some VR glasses.
Through 56 different scenes, Echo paints a painful and sensitive portrait of the many different aspects of a modern society.
Length: 79 min
Language: Icelandic, subtitles in English
