The popular Katrín Jakobsdóttir of the Left-Green Movement stepped down as Prime Minister last spring to run for President, a bid that ultimately failed. Shortly after, the coalition government of the Left-Greens, the centre-right Independence Party and the Progressive Party collapsed due to disagreements over immigration and energy policy.
On the Monday following the elections, we will analyse the results and the new political landscape in Iceland. Could a left-liberal, pro-European coalition of the Social Democrats and the liberal Viðreisn party, currently topping the polls, take the reins of government?
Johan Strang, Professor of Nordic Studies at the University of Helsinki, will give an introductory talk and moderate a panel discussion with Iceland’s Ambassador Harald Aspelund and docent Lars Lundsten from the Centre for Nordic Studies at the University of Helsinki.
The event is organised in collaboration with Nordic Culture Point and Pohjola-Norden. The discussion will be held in English, and no registration is required. We will serve glögg and gingerbread.
