Simon Gripenberg and Elin Már Øyen Vister will each give a short talk and have a joint conversation about long travel and artist residency in the middle of nature.
Simon Gripenberg is a Finnish-Swedish artist and activist with a technical background. In his art, he playfully and exploratively touches on questions on topics such as the environment, climate, and technology. In his talk, he reflects on his stays at the Mustarinda artist’s residence in Hyrynsalmi and Røst AiR in Norway, both of which support post-fossil thinking and slow travel.
Multiartist and Earth protector Elin Már Øyen Vister runs Røst AiR on the island municipality of Røst and the lighthouse island of Skomvær off Lofoten. Elin has an extensive background in sound and music and engages in her own art projects including “deep listening”. What are the opportunities and challenges of running an artist’s residence out at sea?
