About the film

Tove i stykker (Denmark, 2020) is a mosaic portrait of Danish author Tove Ditlevsen (1917-1976). The film is an audio collage of interviews and poetry readings woven together with animations by animation director Peter Lopes Andersson. The film deals with the intersection between the author’s life and literature. Tove lived a kind of double life in which the person Tove Ditlevsen fell apart while the author Tove Ditlevse was able to calmly analyse and describe their own life. Director and screenwriter Sami Saif writes: “Tove lived in great pain. Her mental illness exhausted her, but being able to express herself – in relation to the suffering in her life, her existence, and her work – gave her relief and joy.”
