Between 1934 and 1939, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and Finnish writers gathered in Travemünde for swimming, excursions, and discussions on literature and politics – all in the shadow of the Third Reich.
National Socialist Cultural Diplomacy. Culture, Politics, and Comradeship at the German-Nordic Writers’ House, 1934–1939 is the first book to tell the full story of the German-Nordic Writers’ House. It reveals how Nazi cultural politics operated through friendship, literary encounters, and diplomatic strategies – while raising questions that remain urgent today: where is the line between culture and politics, freedom and control, conscience and community?
During the book launch, Frederik Forrai Ørskov will be interviewed by Tuire Liimatainen. We will also hear comments by Johan Östling and Ylva Perera.
We offer refreshments and snacks. To reduce food waste, we kindly ask you to register your attendance in advance. Register here for the event (the link opens in a new window).
