Home Residency B28 Assessment criteria

Assessment criteria

We welcome residency plans that have a clear Nordic connection or that involve collaboration between professionals from several Nordic regions. The focus of the residencies is on works in progress. We ask residency guests to give a public presentation of their work or methods as part of their stay, including an Artist Talk at the Nordic Library and an Open Studio at Residency B28 in Suomenlinna.

A residency can involve:

  • working in a dark room
  • joint rehearsals
  • a writing process
  • creating visual art
  • composing music
  • research work
  • developing a concept

You cannot apply for a residency if:

  • the project is already complete
  • you live outside the the Nordic Region.

Who is eligible to apply?

Artists and curators in all art fields can apply for a residency, including musicians, writers, cultural producers, researchers, and artisans living in the Nordic Region. Groups can apply for joint residencies at B28, with each group member filling out their own residency application. A joint statement of collaboration must be attached to each group member’s application.

How are applications for a residency assessed?

Applications for residencies are assessed based on feasibility, artistic content, and Nordic reach. Applications are reviewed internally by Nordic Culture Point. Decisions are made based on expert evaluation and awarded by the director.

Nordic dimension

Applications are also assessed in terms of their Nordic added value. We encourage co-operation between Nordic regions. In addition to the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden), Nordic regions include Åland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands.
