The artist, the curator, and the collective

Death to the Curator is an artist-driven collaborative project that examines the role of the curator, the artist, and the collective.

Death to the Curator is an artist-driven collaborative project between 15 artist-run organisations in the Nordic Region and one in Addis Ababa. The project examines the role of the curator, the artist, and the collective.

At the forefront of the project, which has received funding from the Art and Culture Programme, is Kunsthall Oslo, which is also hosting the project’s physical exhibition in the spring of 2021.

The project presents new forms and models for artist-driven initiatives from recent years. Many of the artists in the project see the role of the curator as an integral element of their own artistic work. Of central importance to the participants is that what they do always aims to promote, create, preserve, explore, or develop some form of collectivity.

The results of the project Death to the Curator have been presented at an online conference and are also available by way of an online exhibition.
