This accessibility statement applies to the website www.nkk.org. The statement was created on 23 October 2020 and was last updated on 26 November 2025. The website is subject to the Act on the Provision of Digital Services, which requires public online services to be accessible.
The statement is based on an evaluation carried out by an external expert organisation
Digital accessibility is about making a website easy to access and navigate. This accessibility statement also describes known accessibility issues and how you can report shortcomings to us so that we can rectify them.
Accessibility
We are aware of shortcomings in accessibility in relation to our website (WCAG criteria 2.1, levels A and AA). Non-compliance with requirements and applicable exceptions are listed below.
- Certain elements of the website have poor contrast. This applies not only to body text, but also to links and important text displayed over images. (WCAG 1.4.3, 1.4.11)
- The open main menu cannot be scrolled up or down; it disappears when attempting to scroll. The logo and hamburger menu icon do not scale, and the main menu logo appears flattened horizontally. (WCAG 1.4.10)
- Some images on the site are missing captions. (WCAG 1.1.1)
- The website lacks consistent visual focus on elements, meaning that users who navigate with a keyboard cannot fully use the site. (WCAG 2.4.7)
- On the homepage, the element “The Nordic Culture Point Library in Helsinki” displays a background image and an arrow when hovered over with a mouse. When using keyboard navigation, the element does not display the background image, although the arrow appears on the button. All blue buttons on the site turn white when focused, either via keyboard navigation or mouse hover. Articles in the “News” section on the homepage display an image next to the headline when the element is focused. (WCAG 3.2.1)
- The site contains elements in a different language from the main content language specified for the website, without the appropriate semantic language attribute being set. (WCAG 3.1.2)
- We believe that providing audio descriptions of the videos in the form of separate audio files would give rise to a disproportionate burden for the organisation as this is a resource-intensive task given the size of the organisation and the insignificance of video material in the application process for the funding programmes, for example.
- The Nordic Culture Point website contains a few publications (.pdf format files) that do not fully comply with the requirements. Appendices that do not comply with the requirements consist in part of documents created before 23 September 2018. Consequently, these do not need to be adapted retroactively in order to comply with digital accessibility requirements. All documents of crucial importance in the application process for a Nordic funding programme have been made accessible.
- The website contains limited amounts of older video material that lacks subtitles. These videos were produced before 23 September 2018 and, under the directive, do not need to be adapted retroactively.
- The project page https://bokslukaren.org and its downloadable material have been adapted for accessibility, except for the Icelandic, Northern Sami, Faeroese, and Greenlandic PDF files. Currently available software does not allow accessibility-adapted exports in these languages.
We are striving to improve the accessibility of our website. If you discover an issue that is not mentioned here, or if you believe that we are not complying with our legal requirements, please contact us so that we can try to help you and, if possible, put things right.
