Artist Talk: Christalena Hughmanick (USA & IS)

""

Join us for an artist talk with artist Christalena Hughmanick (USA & IS) on the research methods and material processes used to create textiles, performance, and social practice artworks involving plants.

Christalena presents past and current projects that have used plant pigments and hand stitching as material for art production and the conceptual nature of human affect on plant ecologies. In June, the artist is staying at Residency B28 in Suomenlinna, where she is working with the island gardener to learn specifics of the local ecologies.

During the event, Christalena talks about plant foraging in Iceland and serve tea made out of local dandelion plants for event attendees.

Admission is free. Warmly welcome!

About the artist

Christalena is a visual artist, performer & educator working in Reykjavik. In these practices, she builds community through shared experience, while playing with roles of artist to viewer and consumer to producer.
